Eureka Baseball’s Team Culture

The Eureka baseball team is doing much better this year. This year the team is looking to have fun and enjoy the game while bringing home the win. In an interview with senior Dominic Tenayuca and Sophomore David Hidden, they explained what the focus has been in their recent success and the difference between this year and last. David explained that “From my freshman year to my sophomore year, the team chemistry has gotten better. Everyone feels as if they can be comfortable having a conversation with others on the team.” This team wants to succeed through good energy and camaraderie while being able to enjoy the sport.

David said “When you overthink every scenario in your head, you forget what the games are about. It’s about having fun.” The bond this team shares is extremely important to them. In their third game in Mississippi, David shares that it was his first game being able to play. They lost the first couple of games but completed a shutout victory in the last game 3-0. David explained “It wasn’t about the results, just being able to go out there and have fun. When asked about his favorite memory of his time as a Eureka baseball player, Dominic said “My first game back from surgery.” Dominic was injured during his wrestling season at Eureka. “My team was rallying behind me, and I told them I was determined to get back on the field for the team.” This is the culture that is being embraced by the Eureka baseball team.

Another culture that has been brought to this team is accountability. When asked about how being on the team has affected them as a person, both gave marvelous remarks about team captain Nate Garard. Dominic said” Our team captain likes to hold a set standard of excellence with everybody. Not just on the field, but how we talk to each other and how we carry ourselves.”
