Greek Life is filled with many opportunities and gives everyone a chance to be themselves. Greek Life is opened to all students and student athletes.
There are two fraternities and three sororities on campus. The fraternities on campus are the Lambda Chi Alpha, and Tau Kappa Epsilon. The three sororities on campus are Delta Delta Pi, Phi-O Omega, and Delta Zeta.
The Tua Kappa Epsilon was founded on January 10th, 1899. There are around 208 active chapters around the United States.
The Lambda Chi Alpha Chapter was founded later. This chapter was founded in November 15th, 1911. It has up to a 185 chapter around the United States.
Both of these chapters are National.
Most people tend to think Greek Life on campus is what the media portrays on TV or in movies, but it doesn’t relate here at Eureka College.
“I only had the stereotypical view often portrayed media. But once I got involved in Greek Life, I understood why they did attract me,” the Tua Kappa Epsilon president, Troy Arries said.
Greek life is not always about parties and creating events.
“I’ve always wanted to be a part of a running organization and trying to better myself as a person by gaining the necessary skills to do, and the pride itself on helping you build its skills,” Arries said.
Other than gaining necessary skills and being a part of an organization. Fraternities are all about the connections people make during their time, and connections will carry on to the real world. Peyton Biggs, the Lambda Chi Alpha president, shared a connection he had made through Greek Life.
“I will never forget my big brother, Steven Bartkus. I had a room next to him, we had a great connection, [and] we had shared many common things like Call of Duty and shows together,” Biggs said.
The connections in Fraternities are life long, and many people who were apart of these organizations come back for homecoming and other events that Eureka College shows. Both fraternities are great for people on campus, and they make connections with the sororities on campus as well, with the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter and the Delta Delta Pie chapter having Brother and Sister hood bonds on campus.
“Our bond with Lambda Chi Alpha have made every moment unforgettable one, every time there’s memories we created,” said Alyvia Gannon, member of the Delta Delta Pies.
Both chapters have been brothers and sisters for a year, and the relationship keeps growing.
The Delta Delta Pies was founded in May 19, 1910. Making it the oldest Chapter at Eureka College.
Other than having unforgettable moments as sorority, it is all about how people started their journey and why they would take a chance of being a part of something so great.
Delaney Douglas, Phi-O Omega president, states the impact that Greek Life has had on her.
“I never really considered Greek Life until I met the house that became my home. I wanted to give the best shot I could, so I signed my bid. But out of my sorority I have found support, acceptance, and loyalty unlike any other.”
There are many people that are still on the fence when it comes to joining an organization.
“My advice would be to throw caution to the wind and experience what Greek life has to offer. Don’t Limit the opportunities based on the “What Ifs,” Douglas said.
The Phi-O Omegas have been on going sorority and have been here at Eureka College since the 1920s.
Delta Zetas, a National Sorority on campus, have been on the Eureka College campus since February 17th, 1917. They have up to 166 chapters around the United States.
“If you want to grow these connections more within the Greek community because as a whole it is great community,” Ella Walker, a member, said.
Greek Life gives many opportunities, and it will be another home for people that are wanting to join. If there are more questions reach out to anyone in Greek Life or reach out to Pammy Levinson on campus.
