The Gents: Finding a New Home
After having to find a new home with the closure of Lincoln College in Lincoln, Illinois. Many students apart from The Gents were left with no place to call home. Luckily for them, President Jamel Wright and Dean Norris Chase had a plan to welcome them with open arms, giving them a chance to create a new home for The Gents.
The Gents a male mentoring organization, has a vision to create a relationship with the community to help create an environment for these young men to strive in! The Gents have a brotherhood that cannot be broken; everyone within the organization has stated that this brotherhood is different. They know that their brothers will always because they have created a community that helps others reach their true potential. That bond between these brothers was not broken when Lincoln students had to make the transition to Eureka College, many even say it made them closer. “Since the transition to Eureka College, The Gents have become a closer-knit group while transitioning to a smaller campus. We are all a family, and we hope we can impact as many brothers as possible,” said sophomore Gaige Owens
The program is all about giving to others, in most circumstances it is giving back to the community. During their time at Lincoln college, The Gents used their time and resources to create fundraisers for their community. Last Christmas, The Gents raised money for the kids of Lincoln, who’s family could not afford presents for them around the holiday season. Additionally, The Gents also held a fundraiser name Pie a Gent, which raised a bunch of money that they donated to breast cancer awareness. The Gents recently held a field day event at Eureka College. It was a huge success, with a lot of students in attendance and the atmosphere was incredible. Field day included tons of games ranging from bocce to tug-of-war and of the more popular things to do at the field day was the go-cart. To further provide a great time for attendees, there was a taco truck and a store called Simply Fit 4u which provided healthy drinks for those in attendance.
To be a Gent means to always have respect, honor, integrity. It also means being a role model and doing what is right all the time without anybody looking. The Gents love to volunteer and simply meet new people in the neighborhood. The most important thing about being a Gent is to transform boys into men and men into better men. The Gents aim to steer people to a beneficial path in life by creating opportunities for everyone.
