Eureka College Theatre Performs Slapstick Comedy
On April 1st and 2nd, Eureka College Theatre performed A Little Nite of Naughty Laughs, Comedies of Moliere at Pritchard Theatre. The show featured several one act plays by the famed French 17th century comedic playwright, Jean Baptiste Moliere, and included a cast of eleven actors and four of whom performed for their first time at Eureka.
Many cast members prepared for a quick turnaround, performing once again just a couple of months after their debut of Promises, Promises, the show that produced the largest audience for a theater production in Eureka College’s history. Senior actor Sean Blair reflects on the challenges of quick preparation. “The hardest part about the turnaround was creating some of the more intricate details of the set.” Blair also said, “Memorizing lines was also challenging, but this gave me a chance to utilize my improvisational skills.” Soon to graduate, this was Sean’s final performance at Eureka. “It felt like a very end-of-chapter moment. Bittersweet. Like something you don’t want to end, but know it has to.” The Pegasus wishes Sean the best in his academic and acting endeavors.
Despite the challenges, the one act plays of Moliere were well received by audiences. “I thought the play was very well put together. The acting was phenomenal, and I really liked the backdrop,” said sophomore Paytyn Arends. This production featured smaller audience sizes and included an element of audience participation as actors interacted with members of the front rows. A Little Nite of Naughty Laughs, Comedies of Moliere showcased the versatility of EC Theatre.“I thought the show was very different than any play I’ve seen here at Eureka”, said Arends.
While the next show is still to be announced, look forward to coming performances in the 2023-2024 academic year.
