Softball Senior Spotlight

Eureka Softball has started out the season with a 5-15-1 overall record and a 2-2 conference record. Returning senior utility player, Christine Mepham has had a strong start this season. She has played in 19 games so far and has a batting average of .350. Mepham is the only senior on the team and has been playing the sport for 18 years. She chose Eureka because, “The school was just as important to me as the team. When I first walked onto campus, I knew Eureka was home. I also loved the way the athletic side of campus feels like family!” Mepham said. She has been on the team since her freshman year in 2020. Her freshman season may have been cut short due to the pandemic, but she has definitely made up for lost time in the past 3 years. She has been a vital part of the Red Devils team.

Her two favorite personal memories while on the team are “When I threw a shutout against Blackburn College and when I hit my first college home run on my 21st birthday” Christine said. The team is an incredibly tight unit. Her favorite team memory is “When we won against Fontbonne when all odds were against us” Mepham said. Just like the athletic side of campus felt like family, so do her fellow teammates.

As the season starts to wind down, she says that she will miss her teammates the most. “I met most of my closest friends through softball and I don’t want to leave them,” Christine said. We wish the best of luck to the Lady Red Devils for the rest of the season and Christine as she closes out a remarkable career.
