Eureka’s International Soccer Stars

Dan and Troy, two international students who play on the soccer team agreed to sit down and answer a few questions regarding their experience. When asked “If you played for a soccer team where you’re from, how is it different from Eureka?” Dan reported that soccer in London is  “… a lot more competitive and more accepting towards abuse on the field, in order to make each other better – here the environments are more relaxed and friendly. The sport is much bigger and so there is a lot more competition in the country and demands the highest quality consistently to be successful in any way.” their record for the past season was a — which was a good record Troy, who hails from South Africa said that his club differs from Eureka by saying “The club I played for differs from Eureka in various ways. My previous club was deemed an academy and had a sort of professional environment. This meant the coaching staff and teammates were understandably more critical.”

Dan and Troy and two great soccer players that could play elsewhere but thankfully so far both are pleased with their experiences at Eureka. Troy says that he thinks everything worked out great. He always wanted a degree through a 4-year institution, and Eureka helped him gain exposure to college soccer. Troy also said “I also think it’s an exciting team to be a part of for the near future”Dan was a transfer student from Lincoln College who felt that he wasn’t given enough time to make a choice when the college unfortunately closed. Dan said that Eureka was most appealing in terms of education and the Lincoln price match. Another reason for Dan choosing the school was Coach Ryan Woodside, who he became close with while playing together over the summer at FC Diablos

Both Dan and Troy currently play outside of Eureka or are actively considering it. Dan said he plays for a summer team on the off seasons of college soccer and said  “The level is a lot higher and the league includes a mixture of D1 student-athletes and full-time working adults.” Troy on the other hand does not play for a team other than Eureka at the moment but said he letting everything happen on its own.
